I've seen you wearing some new white shoes, tell me about them!

My answer




If you have ever been in for a visit with me for anything from your waist down, there is a good chance I've asked you what type of shoes you wear. I think our footwear has a great effect on our body,  although I do believe there are way more "good" shoes than "bad" shoes. 

Most of the time when someone asks if their shoes are good or bad, my main response is "are they comfortable"? If they are - great. Likely I am going to continue wearing them. If they are uncomfortable or we can directly relate some of your issues to some feature of the shoes, we may talk about a change. 

Some of my clients ask me about "barefoot" or minimalist shoes, which I am a big fan of - for the right patients. They are not for everyone but for patients who do well with them, they can be life changing. 

One issue is that a lot of barefoot shoes come with a hefty price tag. If you know me, you also know I have no issue spending money on shoes. I always say, if you are going to spend money on something, make it shoes and a mattress because you will use those everyday. 

However, recently many "budget" barefoot shoes have been popping up so I decided to give them a try. I ordered these Whitins off Amazon and couldn't be happier. 

They have a lot of great features of the more expensive barefoot brands, with a $40 price tag. So, if you think barefoot shoes may be right for you, and are interested in giving them a try this may be your in!
